Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal is one of the most modern and fastest methods of hair removal, also called permanent hair removal. Laser hair removal involves destroying the hair roots using flashes of light. Laser hair removal burns the pigment in the hair follicle without damaging other skin structures. The laser destroys the hair roots with hairs in the growth phase. The hair will never grow back in that spot. Because the hairs are only in direct contact with the hair roots during the growth phase, they can only be destroyed then.

The Treatment

Before treatment can take place, it is important that you come by for a no-obligation intake interview. During this intake interview, questions are asked about general health, wishes and expectations of the treatment. The skin therapist will explain exactly what you can and cannot expect. It will also be checked whether you are suitable for the laser treatment.
The skin should not have been in the sun for at least 1 to 6 weeks and tanning products should be avoided. This is because the laser beam used focuses on pigment. When the skin has recently been exposed to sunlight, more pigment is present in the skin. The laser beam is therefore no longer focused on just the pigment in the hair, but also on the skin.

It is important that you stop waxing or epilating at least 6 weeks prior to the laser treatment. You may shave or cut the area. The hair follicle must remain in the skin, because the laser is aimed at the pigment in the hair follicle. It is recommended to shave the hair 1 to 2 days before the treatment. Are you suitable? After Treatment

After the treatment you may feel warmth in the skin for a while. You may cool the treated area if you prefer. The treated area may become red and swelling. This is a reaction to the strong heat that the laser has introduced into the skin. This reaction will diminish within 1 to 2 days. One to two weeks after the treatment, the hair that has been treated will fall out very slowly.

After Treatment

How many treatments someone needs varies per individual. Only hair that is in the active growth phase can be permanently removed. However, not all hairs are in this growth phase at the same time. Because not all hairs are in the growth phase at the same time, the treatment will have to be repeated several times. This is on average between 4 to 8 treatments with periods of 6 to 12 weeks between treatments.

Advice

Avoid exposure to UV light (both from the sun and from a tanning bed) and excessive heat during and at least 4 to 12 weeks after the treatment. The skin therapist can tell you more about this.

Leave the skin alone after the treatment and do not pick or remove scabs.

Do not pluck or wax between treatments. However, the hair may be cut or shaved.

If necessary, you can apply a cool pack at home for 20 minutes to cool the skin.

Sauna and hot baths are not recommended 24 to 72 hours after treatment.

When exposed to the sun/daylight, it is recommended to protect the skin with a sunscreen with at least SPF 30.

Compensation
